Background
A product designer with five years across enterprise and regulated software, who studied Product Design at the National University of Ireland. Started as a UX designer at Verizon Connect building a fleet management product, then Product Designer at IPS Group in logistics, before running his own practice. Works at the point where a complex regulated process has to become something a person can complete without training.
Current focus
Leads product design across Orbitra's customer-facing platform: the journey that takes a trading company from sign-up to a verified Orbitra ID, and the OrbitraSCOUT workspace they work in once they have one. Owns the design direction, the specifications the build works from, and the standards behind them.
Research interests
How to reduce the burden on people operating in high-stakes, regulated environments. What it takes to design something that earns trust quickly, in situations where a mistake has real consequences and the user has no patience for a learning curve.
Before product design, Shane was a portrait artist working in pencil and acrylic, and won a few awards for it. The brushes are in a drawer somewhere, and he keeps promising himself he will dig them out.
